The Dresser is, of course, a play about the theatre, the people and all that that includes. It is a wonderfully poignant piece – sometimes tender, sometimes painful with an ever present acerbic wit. As you would expect from a play set in a theatre, it has both comedy and tragedy.

The action centres on an ageing actor/manager in a rep. company in the 40s and his relationships with the long suffering characters that surround him – particularly his relationship with Norman, his dresser.
