Thinking of joining the Geoffrey Whitworth Theatre?

Who can become a member?

Membership is open to anyone, whether you are a regular audience member, an actor eager to tread the boards or a backstage hero waiting in the wings. Whichever one of these categories you fall in to, new members are always welcome and keep the GWT thriving!

Audience Members

If you love coming along to the GWT and want to support us, then why not become a member? When you do, you’ll be able to enjoy the following member benefits:

  • Reduced seat prices
  • Priority booking for the entire season
  • Access to our monthly magazine ‘Whitwords’

(Please note, whether you are an audience member, actor, backstage hero or Front of House volunteer, you will enjoy these benefits)

On Stage

We take pride in the opportunities we provide for both our existing acting members and newcomers to hone their skills and challenge themselves to reach new heights. Please note, if you are cast in any of our productions, you are required to become a member.

To see what current opportunities are available for actors, visit our auditions page.

To appear in our main house productions for the full run of eight performances, you must be 16 years old or over. However, for those of secondary school age, we have a thriving Youth Theatre. You can find out more here

Backstage

Huge backstage teams help to bring our productions to life. We like to call them our “backstage heroes”. We rely upon these heroes for props, costumes, make-up, set design, building, painting, sound and lighting.

Front of House

If you fancy getting involved, but would rather stay away from the stage, then why not volunteer to help with front of house, the box office, the bar or coffee bar? Like a well-oiled machine, these customer-facing teams ensure that our audiences have a fantastic experience. However, you would like to get involved everyone is welcome!

Auditions

Auditions are held in June and July each year for the following season’s productions. You can find more information on our auditions page, latest news page and in our membership magazine ‘Whitwords’. Everyone is welcome and we are always keen for new people to get involved!

Rehearsals

Rehearsals for each production usually take place for 6-7 weeks prior to performance on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.45pm, with some Sunday runs required nearer to the date of performance. Initial rehearsals are held in the theatre’s rehearsal studio then move onto the stage for the three weeks leading up to the week of performances.
