An Evening with
Anton Chekhov

Translated and adapted by Michael Frayn

Production synopsis A highly entertaining evening of three comic shorts from the pen of Anton Chekhov, revelling in the broad comedy of human behaviour.

“Drama”  – A famous writer takes deadly, drastic action when driven to distraction by an ambitious playwright’s reading of her ghastly play.

“Swan Song”  – A melancholy ageing actor is perked up by memories of his past glories and decides that there is life in the old dog yet.

“The Proposal”  – A farce on the preposterous business of courtship and marriage.
